ANRiN Project

Kano state has been marked as one of the states with highest poverty rates and hence suffer from high prevalence (19.2%) of severe growth among children below 59 months of age.

The World bank and Global Financing facility (GFF) financed accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ARNiN) project aim to increase utilization of quality, cost effective nutrition services for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls and children under five years of age in 12 states of Nigeria. IHVN has been selected as one of the 3 non state Actors (NSA) to implement the project in Kano.

 

IHVN and AREWA HEALTH TRUST INITIATIVE (AHTI) is collaborating to provide Basic Package of Nutrition Services (BPNS) in community settings in TARAUNI LGA with the objective of increasing access to and utilization of a community-based BPNS in defined LGAs according to established and agreed targets (for quality and coverage) to reduce the level of malnutrition in Kano State.

 

* Increased access and utilization of equitable based nutrition.

* Improve knowledge of nutritional requirements of children under the age of 23 months among mothers and caregivers.

* Provision of nutritional supplements for children between the ages of 5-23 months through the distribution of micronutrient powder.

* Improve nutritional status of pregnant women through provision of Iron-Folic acid tablets and intermittent malaria prophylaxis

* Ensure micro-nutrients deficiencies resulting from diarrhea are addressed through increase dose of Zinc fortified ORS for the management of diarrhea in children 6-59 months of age.

* Improve Vitamin A supplementation coverage and routine deworming of children under the age of 5 through the implementation of bi-annual campaigns
